Making a Difference

About camp monty

Camp Monty is a sports camp ministry that is free to the young children and teens of Niksic, Montenegro.

Camp Monty was started in the city of Niksic, Montenegro in the summer of 2007 when Eric Murphy, head of the ministry organization Life Impact For Eternity (LIFE), came to Niksic to connect with young people. He had recently finished a missions trip that he was on and had been praying that God would lead him to where God would have him go next. He ended up in Niksic, Montenegro, where he started a game of basketball with some of the kids in the city. This drew a crowd and he was able to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the group, and at that moment he know that God had brought him to that place and Camp Monty was born. He formed a ministry team of Americans, Romanians and Hungarians that would start the first camp. Their goal was to teach English, basketball, soccer [football] and crafts.

It was an instant success with the youth of Niksic, and as the community became aware of the overwhelmingly positive response of the camp, a partnership was forged with The English Language Center in Niksic and has since developed a partnership with the OFK Football Center that is led by one of Yugoslavia's most famous sports heroes, Dragan Marojevic, and the Sportski Centar of Niksic. These two facilities are the two leading sports facilities and programs in Niksic. Without these relationships, Camp Monty could not do what we do in this city. God opened those doors through the love and commitment of this ministry to share the Gospel in Montenegro.

Through the years, the response has been amazing, and we have watched God work in the hearts and lives of the people of Montenegro.  Thousands of young kids and teenagers have attended Camp Monty from our humble beginnings in 2007, and many of them have returned year after year. Many of them have accepted Christ as their Savior and they are now leaders at  Camp Monty. They help to translate for us, lead sporting events, and teach the younger kids about the love of Jesus.

Today we have an incredible leadership team that heads the efforts of Camp Monty. They spend the entire year training volunteers and recruiting teams to go with them as they continue to impact the lives of those who attend the camp.

Life Impact For Eternity (LIFE) uses sports and teaching English to bring young people together in youth camps. Dynamic coaches from the United States and other countries come to train athletes. People who have a talent or ability that they take for granted, that is, speaking English, can be used by God to effect change in young people’s lives on the mission field.

LIFE was founded in 2004 by Eric Murphy, Lynne Murphy and Del Mohler with a mission to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the youth of Eastern Europe through summer camps and evangelistic programs year around. Today, Life Impact for Eternity is actively involved in Montenegro, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Costa Rica.
